Trinity Repertory Company

In 1964 in Providence, RI's Trinity United Methodist Church, a tiny community theatre was born -- an organization that would eventually become one of the US's most respected regional theatres: Trinity Repertory Company. Their move in 1974 to their current home, the Lederer Theater Center (nee The Majestic), was overseen by their long-time (through 1989) artistic director, Adrian Hall. TRC was the "first American theater company to perform at the Edinburgh International Festival." Currently led by Artistic Director Oskar Eustis, TRC has been the home of 41 world premieres. They maintain a respected conservatory program, as well as educational and community outreach programs.

TRC's two theatres -- the Upstairs Theater (500+ seats) and the Downstairs Theater (300) -- are the home to their regular season (plus one Christmas Carol). The 1999/2000 season includes such tremendous variety as Shaw's Mrs. Warren's Profession, The Beauty Queen of Leenane, Shakespeare's Othello, My Fair Lady, Mamet's The Cryptogram, and Emily Mann's Meshugah.

Trinity Rep's website is nearly spartan in its simplicity. All your options are ever present in the top button bar or the bottom link list. You can read about the season (with tons of information for each show), special events, the TRC's outreach and education programs. You can volunteer your time or money (they're nine-tenths of their way through a $10 million capital improvement campaign). And they've recently added an online ticket purchasing mechanism.
