We continue our series of visits to the web sites of major
regional theatres. This week: Indiana Repertory TheatreIndiana's " only fully professional resident not-for-profit theatre, " the Indiana Repertory Theatre was founded in 1972. Originally housed in the Athenaeum Turners Building, in 1980 they moved into a renovated Indiana Theatre (built in 1927). This building houses three spaces: the Mainstage, Upperstage, and Cabaret. The IRT recently appointed Janet Allen their artistic director after her lengthy association with the theatre, beginning with her 1980 hiring as literary manager/dramaturg. Their 1999/2000 season opened October 5, with Shaw's Pygmalion, and continues with an inventive mix of new and classics, including Same Time, Next Year, Othello, Blithe Spirit, an adaptation of A Christmas Carol, Heather McDonald's An Almost Holy Picture, Ossie Davis' Paul Robeson, All American, James Still's Amber Waves, and Colin Thomas' study of the aftermath of Hiroshima, One Thousand Cranes. The Indiana Repertory Theatre website is very classy and attractively designed, with a clever java navigation frame that provides direct access to most of the subsections of the site. You'll find the usual areas for information and history, current season, subscription and group information, education and outreach. Kind of disappointing for such a well-designed site, online ticket purchase is through TicketsLive's awkward interface -- there's no direct access to tickets for the show you're interested in; the list starts with today and continues, at ten performances a page, to the end of the season making it an exercise in tedium to try to purchase tickets for the second to last show! Ticket purchasing is not secure. Previous regional theatre views: C U @ the Theatre!
