All Recipes, All the TimeSo, you're getting tired of the same old recipes, those tried-and-true classics that are becoming more tired and true? It happens to everyone, in the summer in particular. You're going to all these events, grilling out more, and you don't want to spend the whole season eating hamburgers and other typical summer fare. So what do you do? Where can you go for a ton of recipes when you aren't really sure what you're looking for? When I need a new recipe for an old favorite, I head to allrecipes.com. It's a very comprehensive, fun site full of recipes for all sorts of things, rated by cooks like you and me. Let me say right off the bat that this site is a little busy. It's bright, with a lot of red and orange text, but mostly on white backgrounds so it's not too hard to read. There also are lots of ads on this site, and lots of them masquerade as editorial copy. Everything on the right-hand side of the page and most of the stuff in the middle is advertising. This site also has a lot of pop-ups, which can be pretty darn annoying. Stick to the left-hand side, though, and you'll find the good stuff. At the top of the page is the search function, which allows you to look for recipes by ingredient, keyword or the name of the person who submitted the recipe. Then there's the "recipe collections" section, which is my favorite since I love to browse. Here you'll find categories including appetizer, main dish, side dish and beverage, but it gets better. You can also browse by meat (chicken, beef, pork, seafood) as well as pasta, vegetarian dishes, Mexican and stuff for kids. There are several divisions of desserts, a bread section and holidays sections as well. Since it is grill season, I thought I'd look up different ways to cook a perennial grill favorite -- chicken. Clicking on chicken recently, I was directed to an article about jerk, the traditional Jamaican spice blend/way of life. The article included information about what goes into jerk seasoning, how the jerk is applied and the meat is cooked, as well as links to recipes for jerk, side dishes and deserts. Each of the recipe collection pages has a similar article at the top of the page, and these are updated weekly. Once inside the chicken section, you can browse many categories, from chicken salad to what to do with leftovers. You can search by cut of meat and cooking method. So, in keeping with our theme, I decided to check out the barbeque section.
