DEAL ON THE DIAMOND : ALL YOU NEED IS THE CALZONE

What's up my diamond dealers? It's your favorite Ace in the hole, bringing you the up to date news and semantics within the world of Major League Baseball.

Have you been following the battle in the Bronx? No, not the Yankees and Devil Rays....JoeTorre vs. "The Boss."

Okay, here's my dime on this subject. Last time I checked, George Steinbrennerer owned the team and Joe Torre was his employee. Yet, thanks to the aura that surrounds Torre within Yankee circles, he feels that he is untouchable and can say what he wants, when he wants.

Earth to Joe! Times have changed. This is not 1999, and your team is NOT the defending champion in the American League let alone the majors. In my opinion, there's absolutely nothing for you to be shouting about. If you aren't aware already, a rift has been building between these two since spring training.

George exercised his right to have a big mouth (has a big wallet too by the way), and he spoke out about the team missing out on winning it all two straight seasons. Regardless of the past, "The Boss" has proven time and time again that he will fire anyone at anytime. Why? Just because he feels like it. Torre has known this for a long time and has handled the pressure beautifully throughout his tenure as the manager of the Yankees. The difference? I think Joe is fed up.

Want proof? Operation Jeff Weaver! We all know that Steinbrenner went shopping in the off-season and picked up the highly touted Jose Contreras. After signing Contreras to a multi-million dollar contract, Torre tried to shove him in the bullpen as his setup man in order to keep Jeff Weaver in the starting staff. Bad move. Note to Joe! Don't cross the boss!

George was none too happy about this as the two went back and forth, but when push came to shove, Steinbrenner did the right thing. He backed off, spoke of his belief that Torre is the manager and it ultimately was his decision. Weaver got the nod.

Then... Weaver got the boos, and more boos, and oh yeah... more boos! My two year old neice could hit off this guy. By the way, he cries and pouts more than she does. Following a couple of atrocious starts, Weaver went to the over-populated mess also known as the Yankee bullpen and Contreras had his shot.
