Of course, like famous animals, there are famous people whose sites are visited by hundreds if not thousands of tourists daily. Jim Morrison and John F. Kennedy are two ultra-popular examples.

Less alluring to tourists, but famous all the same, is the grave site of the infamous Lizzie Borden. Buried in the town in which she lived, in which her parents were murdered and she was charged for the crimes, and in which she was eventually acquitted, her body is in the Borden family plot in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Fall River, MA.

The children of Andrew & Sarah Borden, the parents brutally murdered by an axe-wielding maniac whose identity is still a mystery, are all buried in a common plot. Lizzie’s sisters Alice and Emma join her, Emma dying the same year as Lizzie, and Alice having died several years earlier.

Though Lizzie’s reputation will always be that of a lunatic whacking her mother and father with 40 and 41 axe strokes, respectively, a Massachusetts jury found Lizzie innocent of the murders. Lizzie lived the rest of her life atop a hill in the affluent area of Fall River, rather a recluse and social outcast.

Another infamous character—who did commit the crimes for which she was eventually killed—is Bonnie Parker...the "Bonnie" in "Bonnie and Clyde." Her and Clyde, lovers and criminals of the highest order, were shot multiple times whilst ambushed by authorities. There bullet-riddled bodies were carried through the streets to cheers of spectators.

Bonnie is buried at Crown Hill Memorial Park in Dallas, Texas. The funeral director, it has been reported, listed the cause of her death as "accidental" at the request of her family. In an epitaph curious for one half of a duo known best for widespread murder and robbery, Bonnie’s tombstone reads:

As the flowers are made sweeter by
The sunshine and the dew, so this old
World is made brighter by the lives
Of folks like you.
