It was reported that Alonzo threatened to return to the spot where they had conducted ritual with Pearl's head—the slaughterhouse, though the fact that the slaughterhouse was used in the case at all had not come to light—as the noose was being fitted around his neck. It has also been reported that the two cursed those involved in the case, and that bad luck befell the police and lawyers who worked on it.

The slaughterhouse was once again abandoned and was eventually demolished. A roadhouse was built in its place and during the 1920s, it was used as a "speakeasy," where mob activities allegedly took place. There are tales of murders taking place inside the building, but none of them were ever solved, as the bodies were removed and disposed of elsewhere to keep investigative eye away from the anti-prohibition illegalities of the speakeasy.

After the end of the prohibition in 1933, the roadhouse was purchased by a man named E.A. Brady, who transformed it into a successful tavern named the "Primrose." Soon mobsters from nearby Cincinnati approached Brady looking to capitalise on the success of the Primrose. When Brady refused, they rained violence down upon the tavern and its patrons. When Brady was charged with the attempted murder of a gangster following a shooting in 1946, he gave up and sold the business to the mob and cursed the place to never again be a success as a casino.

During the 1950s the club was reopened and—appropriately to Brady’s curse—failed as a casino due to numerous police raids. The daughter of the owner, Johanna, fell in love with the lounge singer and conceived his child. Her father was furious, and used his mob connections to have the singer killed. In retribution Johanna attempted to poison her father, and then killed herself. Her body was discovered in the basement, apparently, five months pregnant—just like Pearl.

In the 1970s the club reopened once more as the Hard Rock Café, but was closed in 1978 after fatal shootings on the premises. Finally, Bobby and Janet Mackey bought the building in 1978 and it became the now successful country and western bar.

Since then employees and patrons have experienced numerous inexplicable poltergeist-like occurrences. Lights would turn themselves on. The jukebox would play even though it was unplugged. Dark and angry figures were seen behind the bar. The spirit of Johanna would appear to speak with the employees. Noises from the basement clued employee Carl Lawson that it might be the epicenter of the hauntings. He knew that locals referred to the sealed well in the basement as "hell's gate." He sprinkled holy water on the area hoping to quell the surge of spiritual activity, but it only served to make it worse.
