The Wit and Whimsy of Furry Space

A massive war on Earth culminated in the destruction of the human race and the ruining of Earth, leaving the furries as the primary race in the galaxy. Furries thrived on Luna, and eventually colonised Mars, allowing for trade between the two. It is in this atmosphere that the game is set, setting the stage for players to barter, explore, settle, strategise, lead, and just plain attempt to survive.

To protect the level of roleplay in the game, all characters must be requested and approved by game administration. Those who find it frustrating to wait for a character before jumping in with gameplay can at least explore and get to know a good portion of the game by connecting as a guest. The web site states that character requests are usually processed within 24 hours.

Even though "furry" games aren't my favourite type (simply because I am more a traditional medieval fantasy type girl), I found Furscape very endearing. The locations are well developed, and the admin obviously care for the game and its players, with steps in place to prevent the quality of play from being degraded by mischievous individuals (and we all know a few of those...the kind of people who log on a character named "ButtMuncher" and shout "Poop" a thousand times, for no reason other than to be an utter annoyance). I found a great deal of wit in the game as I walked through various areas, wit that tickled me and piqued my interest. It is a similar humour that I enjoy in "Farscape." At the same time, there is a realistic portrayal of the futuristic space colonies, with nothing so absolutely off-the-wall or potentially ridiculous as to ruin the credibility.

That said, Furscape also offers light-hearted whimsy for those just looking to have a good time. When you enter Furscape you are not bombarded with a world of spam that will take you a few years to sort through. It is a serious roleplaying game, but it is not so serious as to be square; enjoying yourself seems to be the ultimate goal. There are guidelines (available on the web site), but they are not terribly restrictive, merely in place to protect the quality of the game.

To get a better idea of what you're getting yourself into if you request a character for Furscape, be sure to check out the "Encyclopedia Galactica" available on the web site. Coordinate
