Frequently, admin and developers of various games ask me just what steps they can take to promote their game on the World Wide Web. Driving players to your game, after all, is largely the game of driving traffic to your game's site. In this article, we'll explore the various popular options available to admin and webmasters for promotion of your favourite MU*. Write, write, write! I have found that gamers really appreciate reviews of games. They like to know the pros & cons of a game before they commit to playing. People want to know what special features make the game stand out from the thousands of others open to players. They also like to hear these things from people other than the admin-i.e. outside sources (like myself), or the players themselves. There are plenty of sites that will gladly review your game for you in an unbiased fashion. Most offer this service for free. They will give you a good idea of what things are great about your game, and what things need some improvement. Don't be afraid of having one or two negative comments pop up in a review about your game. Ultimately, if there are things that need to be changed, players will be grateful for knowing about it ahead of time. This will weed out those players who would potentially make your life living hell in-game when they discover there might be things less-than-perfect about your game. Reviews should be realistic. The Mud Journal ( http://www.mudjournal.com ) will send one of their team of writers to your game and write an honest article about what they find. There is always a risk that the reviewer won't like your game. But if you have put work into your realm to make it a fun place to play, with features to keep people interested, I am positive the reviewer will find good things to say about it! Currently, they are backed up in a queue of MU*s to review, so you may have to wait a bit until they accept requests again. You can, however, post player reviews in the "Reader Reviews" section. You can post your own articles and reviews at Top Mud Sites (http://www.topmudsites.com ). This site gets a great deal of traffic, so it's a good place to gain exposure! Since players like to hear what other players have to say, I suggest you ask some of your game's regulars to write short reviews of the realm-honest opinions, focusing on specific aspects of the game that make it worth playing. If you end up with reviews that just sound like advertisements, they won't do you any good.
