PLAINVIEW (Special): AND NOW--more of our interview with Wally Chavez here in PART II:

101: What were some of the highlights of what happened during the Walk? And what about some of the people you got to meet along the way?

Chavez: Some of the highlights were getting to meet some people. I think of a pastor in Drumright, OK; his name is Darrell Lee--he's a youth pastor, about my age in fact...And later on, we met a youth ministry out of Stillwater, OK--and although we didn't walk through there, that was one of the places we decided to stay...and we got to meet them and visit with them. And it was the first time I got to see teenagers there--so I got a chance to visit with the kids and with the youth pastor there.

One of the best friends that I met on the trip was the dog I met outside of Guthrie, OK. As a matter of fact, we named him "Guthrie." And he was my traveling companion for about three hours. It was at a time when I was a little discouraged--and I really believe that God placed him there just to get my mind off the road for a little while and to get focused on something else as I walked. And I think that what was funny was that I was praying for myself and my safety. And all of the sudden, the dog entered into my prayers. And the other thing was that Oscar was not only providing snacks for me and water, but he was also having to provide snacks and water for our dog now. It was more work for him...But we'd have loved to brought him with us--but it was just not possible. (Laughs from this editor)

101: Was he owned by someone?

Chavez: He looked like he could have been owned by someone. But there wasn't any houses or anything around us. I have to believe that he could have been owned by someone. He walked a long way...I don't understand the collar that signified where he is from and who he belongs to...I remember walking with him in the first place about half a mile--and he caught up with me. He told me that he wanted to hang out with me for a while. The next break, he didn't do that. So my brother told me that he was just tired...He was licking water while I was getting fruit...But I was excited in some ways because I would have loved to. But again--it'd mean more work for the both of us--both Oscar and myself...

I did get refreshed in Pampa, TX with Trinity Fellowship [Church] there. They put us up in a hotel room [Best Western Northgate Inn] for a couple of nights--and [I] saw my wife and son up there...and [they] just treated us with great hospitality.
