TALES..."RANDOM ACTS OF KINDNESS" EVENT

"RANDOM ACTS OF KINDNESS--THE SPIRIT OF GIVING" EVENT SPECIAL: "YES, VIRGINIA--GOD EVEN USES DRUNK COWBOYS!"

One of the current crazes to hit our society these days is a phenomenon that is currently called the engagement in a "random act of kindness." I guess people got tired of the phrase "random act of violence"--but that's neither here nor there. I don't know what you personally might call the description that follows--but I have found, at least in my own personal experience, a time or two when our God uses what will seem to be the most unlikely ways available to bless the people who call upon His name. I know that there was certainly one time in my past when this happened.

This happened one weekend immediately following a visit I had made with my cousin who was at the time living in Lubbock. He had done a few totally unexpected favors and blessings for me--for which I then promptly thanked him for his help. The visit ended when I then went to a Nazarene church in Lubbock to attend a performance of "The Wailing Wall" performance group hosted by Jews for Jesus. From there, after the performance, I then planned to go right to the bus station for my bus trip back home.

At the time, I was in DESPERATE need to urgently pay a bill that I did not have sufficient financial resources to take care of. So, as a seed to God towards that need, I planted a little offering during that performance towards that ministry and waited to see what God might decide to do with it. Little did I know what was coming next...

You have to keep in mind that I had taken my garment bag plus the briefcase that I used for church. Without too much money to get a cab (or even the desire to get one without spending the limited money that I already had in possession), I started the long walk from the church to the bus station (a MINIMUM distance of about 5 miles one way).

Let's say that the walk (ESPECIALLY with luggage and other paraphernalia I had to trudge along with) was a very strenous one--a little bit more than the 3 1/2 miles that I usually do at a time. But at least I had plenty of time to walk across South Loop 289 (with appropriate breaks, of course, to get something to drink) until I got to University Avenue. Then at University, I turned left and headed north on University with at least three miles to go in my long trek. Thankfully, my bus home was not leaving Lubbock until midnight--so I did at least have plenty of time to spare in this process. More necessary rest breaks followed--and when I got to the Plains National Bank Building at 50th and University, I saw the time as being around 10:00 P.M. I found that I was actually making very good time and figured that even if I was stuck walking with luggage in hand, I could still possibly have enough time to make it for the next bus home.
