TALES...LONE STAR ROAD REPORT

a member of the congregation that I had hoped to go that morning for church. Despite a very heavy accent over the phone, he was able to make arrangements to pick me up at the motel and take me to church.

Another thing that struck me as very interesting was where all of the local TV stations in the Midland/Odessa area are-- IN BETWEEN the two cities. One of them was right around the airport and very close to where the Sun. congregation of my church in that area meets--the rehearsal hall and administrative offices of the Midland/Odessa Symphony and Chorale [(3100 La Force Blvd.) (http://mosc.org). After a morning of Bible study, worship services, and fellowship with folks in my church that I rarely get to see, my friend with the thick Hispanic accent on the phone took me back into Odessa and to the bus station for my afternoon eastbound bus back home. Before the bus came, I went back to the 7-Eleven that I first saw when I landed into town and got some groceries that I needed to get by on until I got back home,

As I got on the bus and left Odessa for good, I couldn't help but think that this area seems to be one with odds and ends. For one thing, it seems odd that a place like this could be here in the middle of the desert and a place where once the Permian Basin was once covered with water and teaming with prehistoric creatures. It also seems odd that places like this would have peculiar characteristics that make places like San Francisco seem normal. But I guess the end of it is that Odessa is not your normal place--but instead one that is usually a stopping off place between Dallas and LA and not normally a city that most wish to head for unless that it is your original intention to do so in the first place. It's mostly a place of odds and ends--odd because what it has to offer and an end in itself when Odessa is the place that you want to stop at when you come to the end of the road.
