TALES...LONE STAR ROAD REPORT

TALES FROM THE WEST TEXAS DUST

LONE STAR ROAD REPORT: A SPECIAL REPORT ON THE WEST TEXAS FESTIVAL 2000 WITH FRANKLIN GRAHAM (PART II)--AN INSIDER'S DIARY

LUBBOCK (Special): Just what exactly is it like to be directly involved in something of the scope of a Franklin Graham Festival? We thought that this week we'd give you an account of someone who was very heavily involved with the Festival: ME!!! Maybe through one snippet of my INSIDER DIARY entries for this event, you might get a taste and a better grasp of just what goes on before, during, and after each service of a Festival. We thought that you might like seeing a small glimpse into a day in the life of a Festival volunteer:

INSIDER'S DIARY ENTRY:

Date: Friday, April 28th

This morning, I got up EARLY EARLY after working the previous night. Really, I didn't sleep all that well. So I just decided to get up and start getting around and getting my stuff ready. Afterwards, after I had my stuff ready, I had breakfast. Then, after I ate breakfast, I waited for my 9:00 AM ride from a local transportation service called CAP-TRANS which allows me to get across town (of Plainview, that is). I used that service to go pick up some pants that I had sent for dry cleaningat an establishment back home; and then, I went to the TNM&O bus station and got my stuff ready to go for travel. I then went to the ATM at my bank to get the money I needed to take this trip as well as stopped by to use their phone to check my e-mail before I got back to the bus station to get on the bus to leave from home to get to Lubbock.

Then I got here in Lubbock--and things went surprizingly well because when I had originally made the hotel reservations for this trip at the establishment that I'm staying at right now as I record this entry for you--I was only able to get a reservation for Sat. night ONLY. They didn't have a single thing available for tonight--which was a problem. But thankfully this morning, I was able to call that particular housing establishment--and, as a result, I was able to come in a day earlier after all.

After I got off the TNM&O bus, I walked another block to the next street to catch one of the Citibuses (Lubbock's public bus system) and then headed towards the motel that I was staying at, checked in to the motel and paid for my room, put my things up in my room, and then decided to head towards a Lowe's grocery store that was about a mile from the motel (which I had previously shopped at during some previous overnight stays in town with my cousin).
