TALES FROM THE WEST TEXAS DUST--LONE STAR ROAD REPORT

LIVE, ON SCENE, AND ON LOCATION REPORT!!!!

AMARILLO (SPECIAL)--Southwest Baptist Church here was the host March 3rd and 4th to a conference sponsored by the American Family Policy Institute, an arm of the American Family Association found by Don Wildmon. Approximately 300 people from as far as Hobbs, NM attended the conference which was billed as an opportunity for Christians in the Texas Panhandle and Eastern New Mexico to gain better insight into the evidence that lends credibility into the things that the Bible teaches. American Family Radio affliates in the Panhandle also served as one of the regional sponsors of the one-and-one-half day event.

Featured speakers for the event included Worldview Academy head and apologetics expert Bill Jack [who spoke to conference participants about creation vs. evolution and the development of the defense of the Christian faith and worldview], adventurer Bob Cornuke, prophecy speaker Dr. Rob Lindsted, and nationally known speaker Dr. Marshall Foster, known for his emphasis on the need for Christians in the U.S. to recapture their nation's Godly heritage and on building what he calls "a family dynasty for the 21st century".

Tim Wildmon, American Family Association vice-president, says that the purpose of the event is "...to cause Christians to grow stronger and deeper in their walk with the Lord and therefore making them better citizens here in country..." through discussions dealing with topics like apologetics [the branch of Christian theology having to do with the defense and proofs of Christianity], prophecy, and America's heritage. "We believe that so many Christians, while well-meaning and want to do something about the world around them as far as being salt and light in our culture as Jesus told us we should be don't understand what a Biblical worldview is--they don't understand why it is they believe what they say they believe."

Amarillo Christian radio personality Paul Anderson notes that one specific reason for bringing the conference to the Golden Spread is because "...the body of Christ are not proactive enough--they're reactive. So we're not getting out and doing the things we need to promote the belief in Jesus Christ. Studies show that Christians can't articulate what they believe and why they believe it as well as they should." Anderson notes that through the speakers that are present and the materials that are made available the group hopes to make people realize "...that being a Christian is not a private thing or a partial part of their lives--that being a Christian impacts every aspect of life...It's not just we go to church on Sunday or we go to church on Wednesday night and then we go home---but every aspect of our life is governed by our Christian worldview."
