TALES FROM THE WEST TEXAS DUST 1899 EVENT SPECIAL (PART I)--COY'S SPECIAL WEB GUIDE TO ALL THINGS 1899 IN TEXAS The artist formerly known as Prince once wrote a song in which he exhorted all of us to ",,.party like it's 1999." But what if your idea of a party goes back say maybe a century or two? Don't despair, my Victorian Web surfing friend. You might be surprized to find that Texas is a state which makes the year of 1899 a specialty. I did a little detailed research off various search engines (Yahoo, of course, being one of them, since it is THE official search engine of this forum)--and here's what I came up with: (1.) Does your Web surfing preferences include cooking and swapping recipes? Then you might wish to check out THE CAPITOL COOK BOOK by Acanthus Books, which offers facsimiles and reprints of classic American, British and European cookbooks and household manuals from the Middle Ages to the early 20th century as well as a wide selection of books on food and culinary history. You can surf by this URL for details: http://acanthus-books.com/acanthus-books... (2.) Need to find a book on Black History in Texas? One book on Amazon.com's current list might be up your alley. A copy of A Glance: Black Soldiers in Jim Crow Texas, 1899-1917 can be yours by going to: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ISBN=0... I won't bore you with any more of my weird and wacky comments, so here's some of the rest of what I found that's 1899. The links that I've included are at random and are in no particular order--so it'll be up to you to see if these would be for you or not. No guarantees from the management here on whether these links would be useful--but you're more than welcome to check them out for yourself. They do include a number of not only historical, but also geneaological sites that deal with this very critical year.
