TALES...SPECIAL FESTIVAL ESSAY

people and great to be around as well.

I just found another one of Travis and a young lady named Jeena (from Albuquerque) who was good friends with most of the folks from Roswell with Travis holding Kenneth and Mary's toddler in his arms. She, along with several others that were from nearby church areas, really was a very bubbly personality to say the least.

There are many stories I could tell about this first Feast, but the ones I remember the most were those that involved the immense generousity of the brethren in the Church (Worldwide Church of God, that is). The Sabbath before I left for the Feast, one of the older members of our congregation named Jack did something I will never forget. I didn't know if I could even go to the Feast in the first place because I was still a college student and, at the time, hadn't even told my family of my involvement in the Church. That Sabbath before I left to go to Big Sandy, though, he personally gave me around $50 to $100 to use for what I wanted and asked me to have a good Feast for me. This was a man that could hardly take care of himself and be able to go to any Feast site--and yet he was willing to give of himself so that my first Feast would be a memorable one. And then on top of that, when I ran out of money during the middle of the Feast, Kari gave me an envelope from an anonymous person containing the money I would need to get through the rest of the Feast. I found out later that it was also from him.

Those that wonder why I put so much reverence for this time of the year only have to look at what this man of limited means did for me to see why the Feast of Tabernacles means a whole lot more to me than Easter and Christmas combined. Even if someone (who was later found dead due to various problems that are not relevant for discussion here) like him had problems and was not one of high regard and esteem in
