"COWBOYS, JUDAISM, AND THE HOLY SPIRIT..." SERIES: AN INTERVIEW WITH SHAWN O'HEARN (PART II)
We now conclude our interview from last week with Pastor Shawn O'Hearn: 101 (CRH): I have noticed in recent months that a number of the evangelists that are usually associated with the "cowboy church", despite any possible stereotypes, have actually gotten very doctrinally porgressive--especially in regards to the specific subjects they teach. Crystal Lyons, for one, has made a lot of hay in regards to teaching about the prophetic timeline concept and a current theory being advanced about God giving man a 6,000-year lease upon the earth. Others in the cowboy church have put a lot of emphasis on teachings dealing with the baptism of the Holy Spirit, healing, and deliverance. These seem to be pretty heavy subjects that churches like yours are delving into big time. What do you attribute the development of these trends to and what do you think the eventual results of these things will be? O'Hearn: That's a great question--and I am glad you asked. I truly believe that "cowboy church" is really the closest thing to a New Testament church as there is today. We have seen what the Bible refers to as the "five-fold ministries" at work in these churches today with amazing results. I see all these ministries with a focus on bringing the New Testament to life in the Church today. You called it delving into--I call it an outpouring of the Spirit of God on His people that will result in a stronger, more committed Body of Christ. 101 (CRH): Now I wish to turn your specific focus in a lazer beam fashion towards the subjects of healing and deliverance. There seems to be a lot of skepticism on all sides (both justified and unjustified) about the very issue of whether these things exist and are meant for us today. How do you answer and respond to this skepticism about these things and whether they might be of some benefit to us--and also, how, in your words, do you explain how it does/does not take place? O'Hearn: This may sound a little simple for some--but you are asking someone who has seen many times God's healing power. But it's all according to where your faith is at. Some try to explain it away, while others have the faith to believe--that's why some receive and some don't. The Bible says the only thing that moves God is faith--period.
