Tales from the West Texas Dust--Anniversary Event SpecialA YEAR DOWN MEMORY LANE This month, this very forum enters into its third anniversary of its existence - and I continue going past the first year of writing for it. This week, I'd thought we'd take time out to see just how far we've all gone on this literary journey that we started and see where the trail might wind from here. What have we been able to do so far? Well, we did take you for a little tour "BEHIND THE BARS" and give you an in-depth look through the very words of people such as Don Castleberry and Patricia Herman at what a prisoner faces once the judge hands down the sentence he/she dreads. We got to see a little bit of the isolation he/she has to confront whenever the gates close behind them. But we didn't just stop there. You also got to see the danger and problems that a police officer has to go through, sometimes during just one shift. Chaplain Rickey Hargrave showed us a little bit about the emotional masks that officers have to wear and the tremendous pressures they are under. And on top of that, Sam Parker opened our eyes to the effects that substance abuse addictions have on crime and the operations of our judicial system. You also got to see firsthand the experiences of a guiarist who actually had a little brush with greatness in recording with Buddy Holly. And if you were Irish (or an Aggie), we found a few web sites that might be of interest to you. And we also did what we could to at least keep you a little bit informed about what's going on around the state through our Texas News Digest. And maybe in the process, you got to find out a little bit about me. The life of a journalist can easily lend itself to a ton of material to write about. To finding out about the trials and tribulations of a mock juror to seeing the serious side of a young man who has had many different influences impact his life, hopefully you endured my rantings and ravings to maybe glean a kernel of knowledge that you can take with you and use every day. NO - I'M NOT WRITING TO SAY GOODBYE!! In fact, the thing I wish to tell you most is that the journey's just getting started - and is only fixing to get better and much more interesting. You aren't going to get rid of me that easy! How will it get interesting? Here's a sneak peak of what lies ahead (that in due time will come to pass if you will just be patient):
