Mistakes in register can lead to misinterpretation of the speaker's or writer's role and can obviously endanger the professional credibility of the person making the mistake.
Learners need to be aware that: a) the correct use of words affects the relationship the speaker or writer has with the listener or reader. b) if English is needed for a specific field, then a special study of the language used in that field will be necessary.
