This Week in Television History: February 16, 1950: The classic game show "What's My Line" debuts on CBS. The format was a simple and very successful one. Contestants (sometimes famous, usually not) were asked "yes" or "no" questions by a panel of distinguished guests who would then try to guess the unusual career of the contestant.

It was the panel of guests and the interplay between them that made the show so fascinating to viewers. Some of the panelists over the years included Fred Allen, Arelene Francis, Dorothy Kilgallen, and Steve Allen. The series left the air on September 3, 1967.
