According to the American Medical Association, almost four million women are physically assaulted by their male partners every year. The folks at Lifetime: Television for Women are hoping to decrease that number with their annual "Campaign to Stop Violence Against Women."
Once again, the network has joined forces with a number of non-profit organizations and government officials to help raise awareness about the problem of domestic violence. More importantly, Lifetime is also offering programming and resources to help victims and their children get the help that they deserve. Some of their upcoming programming includes: "Strong Medicine" - This series premiere episode, appropriately entitled "Intensive Care," contrasts the devastating impact of domestic violence for one woman against the increasing hope for another. In the pilot, Andy (Patricia Richardson) justifies the reasons for her husband's violent behavior and even seems to understand them. Lu (Rosa Blasi) is a rape victim who helps Andy see that her husband's actions cannot be ignored. "Strong Medicine" premieres on Sunday, February 16 at 9 p.m. (ET/PT). "Together: Stop Violence Against Women" - Hosted by actress Angie Harmon and NFL star Jason Sehorn, this new documentary profiles four survivors of domestic violence. It also examines how men and women can work together to help end this problem. The profiles feature first-hand accounts of the incidents and interviews with friends, family members, social workers, lawyers and anti-domestic violence advocates. "Together: Stop the Violence" airs on Sunday, February 16 at 11 p.m. (ET/PT). "Intimate Portrait: Eve Ensler" - This special edition of "Intimate Portrait" profiles Eve Ensler, an influential activist and playwright of "The Vagina Monologues." Ensler is credited with founding "V-Day," dedicated to ending violence against women and girls. Dylan McDermott, Calista Flockhart, Jane Fonda and Gloria Steinem are among those interviewed for this special episode that airs on Tuesday, February 18 at 7:00 (ET/PT). "Final Justice" - Lifetime's true-life reality series offers profiles of three courageous women and their efforts to end domestic violence in their lives and that of others. One woman profiled helps to keep the man who brutally raped and murdered her sister behind bars; another spent 14 years tracking down her sister's killer after the police failed to solve the case; the final portrait profiles a women who tries to protect children from Internet predators. The real-life Erin Brockovich hosts the series. This special episode on domestic violence airs on Friday, March 7 at 8 p.m., (ET/PT).
