ABC's strategy of debuting their new fall season a week early paid off. For the first time in many, many weeks, ABC came in first in the weekly ratings battle.
ABC enjoyed good ratings for their new comedies, "8 Simple Rules For Dating My Daughter" and "Life With Bonnie." "Monday Night Football" and "Miss America" also provided strong ratings for the alphabet network. The real test will come in the weeks ahead as the other networks debut their new shows. Here are the top ten rated shows for the past week as determined by AC Nielsen Media Research. 1. "Survivor: Thailand," CBS, 23 million viewers 2. "Emmy Awards," NBC, 20 million viewers 3. "Monday Night Football," ABC, 17.8 million viewers 4. "8 Simple Rules For Dating My Daughter," ABC, 17.4 million viewers 5. "Life With Bonnie," ABC, 16.1 million viewers 6. "Law & Order," NBC, 14.9 million viewers 7. "Big Brother 3," CBS, 14.6 million viewers 8. "NFL Monday Showcase," ABC, 14.4 million viewers 9. "CSI," CBS (Thursday), 14 million viewers 10. "CSI," CBS (special Monday showing), 13.5 million viewers News and notes from the world of television: "Farscape" gets the axe: In a surprise move the Sci-Fi Channel has cancelled their popular "Farscape" television series. This comes on the heals of their cancellation of "The Invisible Man" series a while back. Fans are in an uproar and are starting a drive to bring back the show. The Sci-Fi Channel cited high production costs as the reason for the unexpected cancellation. And the winner is... The 54th Annual Emmy Awards produced a few surprises this year. Meet your favorite television stars: Dennis Weaver ("Gunsmoke"), Dean Stockwell ("Quantum Leap") and Michael Gross ("Family Ties") are just a few of the many film and television stars who will be appearing at the Annual Lone Pine Film Festival. Many of the greatest film and television series of all time have been filmed in and around Lone Pine, California. The festival primarily honors western stars and production people, but this year the festival is also honoring some of the science fiction films that have been filmed in the area as well. The festival takes place in early October and includes film screenings, panel discussions, tours of movie and television locations, live music and a whole host of other activities.
