Everyone loves Lucy: Fans of "I Love Lucy" have even more reasons to celebrate of late. The "Loving Lucy 2001 Convention" will take place in Burbank, California August 16 - 19. Among the highlights are panel discussions with those involved in the show, memorabilia auctions and the airing of "I Love Lucy" episodes, including a "lost" film made for theaters that has never before been shown in public. The film was comprised of three edited episodes from the first season and had added wrap-around footage shot for filmgoers. Lucille Ball was also recently honored by the United States Postal Service with a postage stamp made in her honor. The stamp was originally unveiled in a ceremony in July on what would have been Ball's 90th birthday. Family Television Awards Announced: The Third Annual Family Television Awards were handed out on August 2nd in a ceremony televised on CBS. Among the big winners were FOX's "Malcolm in the Middle" for best comedy and NBC's "The West Wing" for best drama. CBS's "Survivor" was named best reality series. For a complete listing of the winners, check out http://www.ana.net/family/default.htm. "X" must mark the spot: "Xena" may be in syndication heaven, but Lucy Lawless lives on. The actress has signed to do a minimum of two episodes of "The X-Files" next season. Details on her character have not yet been released. More information will appear in this column when it becomes available. "Roswell" gets new cast member and writer: Adam Rodriguez (formerly of CBS's "Brooklyn South") has signed on to the cast of "Roswell." He will play a young lawyer in the firm where Max Evans' father works when the series moves from the WB to UPN this fall. The series also has two new writers, Melinda Metz and Laura Burns. This is good news for series fans. Metz wrote the series of books on which the series was based. Burns was the editor of the book series. They should bring continuity to the storylines.
