Last year the Sci-Fi Channel came up with the theme "The Summer of Sci-Fi."
Unlike the broadcast networks, they introduced some new, first-run
programming. Ratings for the cable network were "out of this world." As a
result, the Sci-Fi Channel is bringing it back again.
This year they are offering two nights of original programming. Original series include THE INVISIBLE MAN, FARSCAPE, FIRST WAVE, LEXX, BLACK SCORPION, CROSSING OVER WITH JOHN EDWARD and THE SECRET ADVENTURES OF JULES VERNE. New programming includes the series EXPOSURE and the mini-series ROBOCOP: PRIME DIRECTIVES. Here is the Friday night line-up on Sci-Fi beginning June 5th: THE INVISIBLE MAN, 8 9 p.m. Now in its second season, this series offers a blend of comedy and action-adventure. Vincent Ventresca stars as Darien Fawkes, an unwilling, sometimes invisible, secret agent for a very underfunded federal agency. FARSCAPE, 9 10 p.m. Currently in its third season, FARSCAPE is the most popular original series on Sci-Fi. Fans of the series should especially enjoy the FARSCAPE episode scheduled for June 22nd. It was written by series star Ben Browder and is entitled "The Green-Eyed Monster." In the episode the crew finds itself swallowed by a giant space creature. As the crew attempts to escape the belly of the giant beast jealousy among the crew begins to rear its ugly head. CHRONICLE, 10 11 p.m. This new series is an hour long "dramedy" about a hip twentysomething journalist who is forced to take a job at a weekly tabloid. To his astonishment, he discovers that the bizarre stories featured in the tabloid are actually true. The series is produced by Robert Greenblatt and David Janollari who also produce THE HUGHLYES. Saturdays on Sci-Fi this summer look like this: FIRST WAVE, 9 10 p.m. The battle for earth in this series intensifies as the aliens attempt to control the minds of the cast so that they can initiate "the second wave." The series stars Sebastian Spence, Rob LaBelle and Traci Elizabeth Lords. The season finale is schedule for August 4th. LEXX, 10 11 p.m. Known for its exotic costuming and somewhat erotic storylines, this series has a large following. In the season premiere on July 28th, the crew finds itself looking for a new planet on which to find food. The planet they find just happens to be earth. BLACK SCORPION, 12 1 a.m. Produced by Roger Corman, this is camp, comic book action at its best or worst, depending on your point of view. I gave the pilot episode thumbs down in my review. The fact that the series is now airing at 12 a.m. indicates that many people agreed with me. The two-part Go To Page: 1 2
