Strike Possibility Might Mean No New Episodes For A While

"Sweeps weeks" are here and they may be your last look at original episodes of your favorite television series for some time to come. "Sweeps" are the time of year when the ratings of local and national television programs help determine the advertising rates that are charged by station and network. (The big sweeps weeks are February, May and November.)

As many of you know, the Writers Guild and the Screen Actors Guild are in negotiations with producers for new contracts that expire in the upcoming weeks. If either guild goes on strike it will mean that production of new episodes of most prime time television series will come to a half.

Shows not affected included so-called "reality programming" such as SURVIVOR, newsmagazines such as 60 MINUTES and sports programming. Most daytime television series production will continue as well.

Despite the possibility of the upcoming strikes, most of the networks are preparing to air a variety of specials, event programming and season-ending cliffhangers. You can also expect big events such as wedding, births, etc. on your favorite series. Here is a sampling of some of the programs from ABC and CBS. Next week we will preview some of the programs from NBC and FOX.
