Television In February Has Something For Everyone

I received some very positive feedback last week from my column that featured television viewing recommendations during the February "sweeps" week. As a result, I'm offering some recommendations for this week as well. Also on tap are "This week in television history" and a preview of what is in store for next week. Enjoy.

Friday, February 23rd

BIOGRAPHY, A&E, 8 - 9 p.m., PST The award-winning series examines the life of the late Jimi Hendrix.

THE SECRET ADVENTURES OF JULES VERNE, SCI-FI, 10 - 11 p.m., PST Jules Verne and his pals lend a hand to Thomas Edison.

Saturday, February 24th

DICK TRACY, WGN, 8:30 - 10:30 p.m., PST Warren Beatty produced and stars in this homage to the famous detective. Al Pacino and Madonna also star.

KATE BRASHER, CBS, 9 - 10 p.m., PST Early industry buzz is favorable about this new series about a single-parent who is also a social worker. Mary Stuart Masterson and Hector Elizondo and Rhea Pearlman star.

Sunday, February 25th

LADY AND THE TRAMP, ABC, 7 - 9 p.m., PST Disney's animated classic about the love between a pedigreed housedog and a mutt.

THE MASK OF ZORRO, CBS, 9 - 11 p.m., PST Antonio Banderas, Anthony Hopkins and Catherine Zeta-Jones star in this superb adaptation of the classic tale.

Monday, February 26th

7th HEAVEN, WB, 8 - 9 p.m., PST Robbie's scheming father is back in town.

AMERICAN EXPERIENE, PBC, 9 - 10 p.m., PST This special chronicles the Jubilee Siners: Sacrifice and Glory, a gospel group in the 1870s in Tennessee. The special features lots of classic gospel music.

Tuesday, February 27th

BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER, WB, 8 - 9 p.m., PST Buffy experiences the grief caused by her mother's sudden death.

NYPD BLUE, ABC, 10 - 11 p.m., PST Sorenson hunts down a subway slasher.

Wednesday, February 28th

WEST WING, NBC, 9 - 10 p.m., PST The staff copes with the visit of a number of unusual special interest groups to the White House.

LAW AND ORDER, NBC, 10 - 11 p.m., PST The team investigates the death of a contestant on a "reality" television series.

Thursday, March 1st

TV GUIDE'S TRUTH BEHIND THE RUMORS, FOX, 8 - 9 p.m., PST The special goes behind-the-scenes to interview cast members of the classic television comedies CHEERS and LAVERNE AND SHIRLEY.

This week in television history: February 28, 1989 sees the debut of COACH on ABC. The comedy series, about a losing football coach at a college university, stars Craig T. Nelson as Coach Hayden Fox. Also in the cast are Jerry Van Dyke (Assistant Coach Luther Van Dam) and Shelley Fabares (Christine Armstrong Fox). The series airs its last episode on August 6, 1997.
