Networks Look To "Sweep" Up Viewers In FebruaryFebruary is one of four "sweeps" in the television industry. This is the time of year that the ratings determine the amount of money stations can charge advertisers for the next quarter. As a result, networks and local stations tend to put on all of their best programs during "sweeps" months. Your favorite weekly series can also be guaranteed to air new episodes during "sweeps" months as well. Often times there are several good programs on at the same time on various networks. It is a good time to stock up on tapes for your vcr. Here is a sampling of some of just some of the outstanding programs that will be offered in the coming week. Saturday, February 17th BIOGRAPHY, A&E, 8 - 10 p.m., PST BIOGRAPHY repeats its outstanding program focusing on the life of legendary entertainer Judy Garland. Sunday, February 18th INSIDE THE ACTORS STUDIO, BRAVO, 8 - 10 p.m., PST Veteran actor Michael Douglas (WALLSTREET, THE STREETS OF SAN FRANCISCO) is interviewed by host James Lipton. Monday February 19th 7TH HEAVEN, WB, 8 - 9 p.m., PST The Camdens deal with the issue of teenage sex in this thoughtful and sensitive episode. Tuesday, February 20th INTIMATE PORTRAIT, LIFETIME, 7 - 8 p.m., PST This special examines the life of civil rights hero Rosa Parks. Wednesday, February 21st WEST WING, NBC, 9 - 10 p.m., PST The President (Martin Sheen) gets in some political hot water when his Surgeon General makes some unpopular comments about marijuana. Thursday, February 22nd ER, NBC, 10 - 11 p.m., PST This gripping episode of television's top-rated drama has the staff dealing with massive civilian injuries in a train wreck. News and notes from the world of television: The sun sets on BAYWATCH: After twelve successful seasons, the sun is setting on the syndicated series BAYWATCH. Ratings have declined since the series became BAYWATCH HAWAII and the producers pulled the plug last week. New episodes will continue to air through May. Thanks to syndication, however, the series will be around forever.
