The Fall Classic Is Destined For FOX

Starting next season, Major League Baseball's All-Star Game, Playoffs and World Series will all be seen exclusively on FOX. Major League Baseball and FOX worked out an agreement which was announced on September 20th. It has FOX paying $2.5 billion for the rights to carry the games from 2001 - 2006. The current deal has ESPN, NBC and FOX sharing these programs on a rotating basis.

While the $2.5 billion paid by FOX represents a 45% increase from the price paid on the current baseball television contract, it is considerably less than the 300% increase Major League Baseball was seeking. ESPN will continue to carry their slate of regular season games but will be no longer be carrying any post season games after the conclusion of this season. NBC will be out of the picture entirely after this season.
