The Democratic National Convention takes center stage this week as the party gathers to officially nominate Vice President Al Gore to be their presidential candidate.
As with the recent Republican National Convention, the major networks will devote only as much time to the event as they deem newsworthy. That should at least include coverage of the speech by President Clinton (scheduled for Monday) and the acceptance speech by Vice President Gore (scheduled for Wednesday). For political junkies like myself, the best networks to watch to catch all of the action remain PBS, CNN, C-SPAN and the Fox News Channel. (This is the FOX cable news network and should not be confused with the broadcast FOX network.) NIGHTLINE on ABC will also have nightly wrap-ups of convention events. For those viewers who are not interested in the conventions (and research indicates that this is the vast majority of you) here are some television viewing recommendations for the week of August 12th.
