The New Fall Schedules Are Almost Set

May is an important time in the television industry. It is one of the four "sweeps" months when the advertising rates are set for broadcasters. Consequently, networks and local television stations put on a lot of "stunt programming" such as blockbuster mini-series and specials.

In addition to the "sweeps," May is also when the six broadcast networks (ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, UPN and the WB) announce their new schedules for the upcoming fall season. While no network has made their official announcement just yet, we can offer you a sneak preview of some of the shows which have already been renewed or cancelled for next season. If your show is not listed, then the final decision on its fate has yet to be made.

Shows renewed for next season by ABC: DREW CAREY, NYPD BLUE, ONCE AND AGAIN, THE PRACTICE, SPIN CITY, WHOSE LINE IS IT ANYWAY?.

Shows cancelled for next season by ABC: BOY MEETS WORLD, IT'S LIKE...YOU KNOW, SABRINA THE TEENAGE WITCH, WASTELAND and WONDERLAND.

Shows renewed for next season by CBS: BECKER, CBS SUNDAY NIGHT MOVIE, EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND, FAMILY LAW, JUDGING AMY, KING OF QUEENS, 60 MINUTES, TOUCHED BY AN ANGEL.

Shows cancelled for next season by CBS: COSBY, WORK WITH ME.

Shows renewed for next season by FOX: ALLY McBEAL, AMERICA'S MOST WANTED, COPS, FUTURAMA, KING OF THE HILL, MALCOM IN THE MIDDLE, THE SIMPSONS, THAT '70s SHOW, TITUS, THE X-FILES (provided contracts with the stars can be worked out.)

Shows cancelled next season by FOX: BEVERLY HILLS 90210, GET REAL, PARTY OF FIVE.

Shows renewed for next season by NBC: ER, FRIENDS (if they all agree to contracts), JUST SHOOT ME, LAW & ORDER, PROVIDENCE, THIRD ROCK FROM THE SUN, WILL & GRACE.

Shows cancelled for next season by NBC: BATTERY PARK, COLD FEET, FREAKS AND GEEKS, GOD, THE DEVIL AND BOB, SUDDENLY SUSAN, VERONICA'S CLOSET.

Shows renewed for next season by UPN: THE PARKERS, STAR TREK: VOYAGER, WWF SMACKDOWN.

Shows cancelled for next season by UPN: DILBERT, I DARE YOU, SECRET AGENT MAN, SHASTA McNASTY, THE STRIP.

Shows renewed for next season by the WB: 7TH HEAVEN, BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER, ANGEL, DAWSON'S CREEK, CHARMED, THE STEVE HARVEY SHOW, THE JAMIE FOXX SHOW.

Shows cancelled for next season by the WB: BRUTALLY NORMAL, D.C., MISSION HILL, SAFE HARBOR, 7TH HEAVEN: BEGINNINGS, ZOE.

This Week In Television History: FALCON CREST, airs its last new episode on May 17, 1990. The series was part of CBS' popular Friday night lineup in the 80s for nine years. The series starred Jane Wyman, Robert Foxworth and Susan Sullivan among many others. It chronicled the Channing and Gioberti families and was set in the wine country of California.
