ABC will televise the Oscar ceremony live on Sunday, April 26th beginning at 5:30 p.m., PST. NBC Producer is "Freaked Out"> According to a report in THE NEW YORK DAILY NEWS, an executive producer of NBC's low-rated series FREAKS AND GEEKS is livid that the show has been cancelled. NBC has replaced the series with yet another hour of the newsmagazine series DATELINE. Judd Apatow, executive producer of FREAKS AND GEEKS, told THE NEW YORK DAILY NEWS, "If there's anything that's really painful, it's the return of another hour of DATELINE. What show could be more evil? That show exploits tragedy for ratings." Shirley Powell, a spokesperson for NBC, responded by saying, "All of us at NBC love the show. We just couldn't get an audience for it." Apatow is hoping to talk another network into picking up the series or at least into running the remaining episodes that have already been produced. Soap Character Has More Than ONE LIFE TO LIVE In a near unprecedented move, the ABC soap opera ONE LIFE TO LIVE will devote an entire episode to one character. The March 29th episode of the long-running sudser will concentrate on the popular character of Vicki Lord Carpnter. The special hour will feature Carpenter, played by Emmy-winning actress Erika Slezak, in every scene of the episode. The storyline has her entering the hospital to undergo treatment for breast cancer. THIS WEEK IN TV HISTORY March 25, 1982: CAGNEY & LACEY premieres on the CBS Television Network. Based on a popular tv-movie-of-the-week of the same name, CAGNEY & LACEY was the first police drama ever to focus on two females as the lead characters. Tyne Daly played Mary Beth Lacy in the original movie and series. Loretta Swit (MASH) played the role of Cagney in the movie. Meg Foster played the charcter for one season in the television series. She was then replaced by Sharon Gless who played her for the remainder of the series run. Gless and Daly won a combined six Emmy's for their efforts in the series.
