The 1970s

THE LOVE BOAT, (ABC, 1977 to 1986). Some shows are what I call "guilty pleasure shows" and THE LOVE BOAT was definitely one of them. A guilty pleasure show is a show that you enjoy watching but it is also one that you don't readily admit to watching to all but your closest friends.

THE LOVE BOAT was set on a luxury cruise ship. Each episode had three stories. One was always a serious/poignant one. Another was always comedic. The third always involved at least one member of the crew.

THE LOVE BOAT was one of the most popular shows during its day and just about every actor in Hollywood wanted to do a guest appearance. For a time, it seems like just about every actor in Hollywood really did too!

The cast of regulars developed a good chemistry and viewers thought of them as a family. The cast included some television veterans including Gavin MacLeod (MARY TYLER MOORE) as Capt. Merrill Stubing and Bernie Kopell (GET SMART) as Dr.Adam Bricker.

1980s

BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, CBS, 1987 to 1990. Love and fantasy reached new heights with this romantic series. BEAUTY AND THE BEAST starred Linda Hamilton as Asst. District Attorney Catherine Chandler and Ron Perlman as Vincent, a man who was literally half-man and half-beast.

Vincent and his family lived in the tunnels underneath New York City. He rescued Catherine when she was attacked in Central Park and left for dead. He brought her to the tunnel world to nurse her wounds. It was there that the two fell in love despite their obvious physical differences.

The series final season saw Catherine killed off but not before she gave birth to Vincent's son. With the help of new cast member Jo Anderson who played Diana Bennett, Vincent was able to rescue his son who had been kidnapped by the same criminal that had killed Catherine. Afterward he returned to his underground world to raise his son.

MOONLIGHTING, ABC, 1985 to 1989. Few shows were as hip, funny and romantic as this tongue-in-cheek detective series starring Bruce Willis and Cybill Shepherd.

Shepherd played Maddie Hayes, owner of the Blue Moon Detective Agency. She was classy, prim, proper and very stuck up, not to mention gorgeous. Willis played David Addison. He was the carefree, happy-go-lucky type who never took himself or life too seriously. In short, they were two opposites who were attracted to each in spite of themselves.
