More Reviews of New Fall Shows

Before I get to more reviews of the new fall series: Attention TV Related WebmastersIn the last few weeks some of you have e-mailed me with your URL asking me to review your site. I've had major problems with my computer and have lost those e-mails. Could you please send them to me again? I promise to review your sites within the week of receiving your e-mail. Thanks for your help. And now, on with the reviews!

This week I review three new series: BAYWATCH HAWAII, POPULAR and THIRD WATCH.

BATWATCH HAWAII isn't exactly a new show. The original BAYWATCH is now in its tenth year and the producers wanted to liven it up a bit, hence the move to paradise.

I must confess that I've never been a regular viewer of the syndicated series BATWATCH. I considered it eye candy but it certainly wasn't the worst show on the air.

The move seems to have paid off for the series. The natural surroundings are spectacular. The cast is likeable and good-looking. (There seems to be no such thing as an ugly or average looking lifeguard on BAYWATCH.)

If you liked the original BATWATCH you will probably like BATWATCH HAWAII even better. If you are a casual viewer like myself the Hawaiian scenery is much more pleasant to look at than Santa Monica, California where the original series was filmed.

POPULAR is another WB series aimed at teen viewers. The main focus of the series is the lives of a brainy but insecure girl (Sam, played by Carly Pope) and a beautiful cheerleader (played by Leslie Bibbi.)

The teenagers in this series are much like those in DAWSON;S CREEK. They are also more articulate than most of the adults in the series. (Just once I'd like to see a show like this that features a close relationship between a parent and a child.)

The episode I viewed had a powerful scene featuring two of the main characters sharing the fact that their mom had to weigh out their food. One, because she was overweight. The other, because she had an eating disorder. If you like DAWSON'S CREEK, chances are that you will like this series.

THIRD WATCH is from some of the producers of ER and it shares some of that series better quality: powerful, fast moving scripts and hand held camera work.

The series is about the late shift of a group of police, firefighters and paramedics. The series features an ensemble cast of mostly unknown actors. The energy is high and the writing is strong. It is definitely one of the most powerful new series I've seen so far this season.
