The Emmys Honor the Best Television Has to OfferThe 51st Annual Emmy Awards will be television on Sunday, September 12th. The annual awards extravaganza will be televised by FOX from 8:00 - 11:00 p.m., PST. Part of the fun of watching the Emmys is trying to pick the winners. I'm not sure what the Television Academy will do but below are some of my picks as to what shows/performers I think should win. Which programs do you like best? Feel free to post your picks in our opinion section, especially if you disagree with my picks. BEST DRAMA SERIES NOMINEES ER LAW AND ORDER NYPD BLUE THE PRACTICE THE SOPRANOS This is a tough category to pick as every nominee deserves to win. My vote would have to go to NYPD though. The series had some of their most compelling stories ever with the death of the character played by Jimmy Smits and the introduction of the new character played by Rick Schroeder. It gets my vote over THE SOPRANOS by a nose. BEST COMEDY SERIES NOMINEES ALLY MCBEAL EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND FRASIER FRIENDS SEX AND THE CITY My vote in this category would have to go to ALLY MCBEAL. This series is part drama and part comedy. That may loose it some votes among academy voters. Even so, it is the cleverest of the series nominated for best comedy. BEST MINI-SERIES GREST EXPECTATIONS HORATIO HORNBLOWER JOAN OF ARC THE '60S THE TEMPTATIONS In my humble opinion, this is one of the weaker categories. My vote would have to go to GREAT EXPECTATIONS though. Afterall, how can you go against something written by Charles Dickens? The answer, of course, is that you can't. Those are some of my picks. Now let me hear yours! This Date in TV History: My entry this week is a bit different than most. September 13th, 1999 marks the imaginary date that Moonbase Alpha blasted out of earths orbit due to an explosion on the nuclear waste dump on the moon. It cause the moon to leave orbit and launched the series SPACE: 1999, one of the few decent science fiction series of the '70s. Here are my television viewing picks for the week beginning September 10th. Enjoy. Friday, September 10th THE HONEYMOONERS, WGN, 8:30 - 9:00 p.m., PST Ralph overhears and misinterprets a telephone conversation. MAD TV, FOX, 9:00 - 10:00 p.m., PST Talk show host Jerry Springer guests. Saturday, September 11th PROFILER, NBC, 9:00 - 10:00 p.m., PST Sam attends the trail of the man suspected of killing her husband. SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE, NBC, 11:30 - 1:00 p.m., PST
