NATO Bombing Dominates Network News ProgramsNews and Notes From The World of Television: War Coverage Will Dominate Network News Shows:The continuing bombing of the former Yugoslavia will no doubt dominate the headlines for the foreseeable future. Expect the major networks (ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC) to break into their regularly scheduled programming with updates. Depending on events, prime time specials may also pre-empt some programming. For news junkies, CNN, C-SPAN and MSNBC will provide virtual around the clock coverage. The regular Sunday talk shows will also most certainly devote their entire program this weekend to wartime coverage. NBC airs MEET THE PRESS AT 7:00 a.m. PST; ABC airs THIS WEEK at 8:00 a.m., PST; CBS airs FACE THE NATION at 9:30 a.m. PST. ESPN Helps Students Learn About Math and Physics: The ESPN Sports Network is launching a special program to help high school students learn about math and physics. The lessons are taught in a program called THE SPORTSFIGURES. The series uses sports and sports celebrities to teach the laws of physics and other math concepts. Among their programs are: RUNNING WITH IMPULSE - NFL running back Napoleon Kaufman shows students how a small running back can generate momentum. RUNNING WITH IMPULSE - NFL running back Napoleon Kaufman helps demonstrate the concepts of impulse, momentum and Newton¹s Second Law. THAT MU YOU DO - NASCAR Champion Jeff Gordon helps use his race car to teach the concepts of coefficient of friction. THE SOUNDS OF SUMMER - MLB Shortstop Derek Jeter helps demonstrate the speed of sound and the speed of light by asking the question, ³How can a fan watching on television hear the crack of the bat before a fan in the stadium?² This week ESPN also announced that it is donating copies of all of their SPORTSFIGURES programs to each of the 18,000 public and private high schools in America! Lesson plans will also be included. Said ESPN President George Bodenheimer, ³ESPN, with the sponsorship of GO Network, is providing every high school in America with a fun way for students to learn.² Even if you are not in high school you can still learn these concepts.
