Happy holidays everybody! I want to thank all of the regulars who stop by this column every week. I also want to welcome any new readers that may have discovered Suite101.Com with the new computer they got for Christmas. 1999 promises to be an exciting time in the television industry and this column will reflect that. The new year will also see a renewed effort in finding and rating the best television links on the Internet. (If you know of any great sites I missed, please e-mail me and I¹ll share your comments with everyone else.)

This column will continue to feature interviews with industry professionals, previews and reviews of television programs and reports from various entertainment-related conventions.

Of course, it will also include our popular regular features This Week in TV History and my TV Viewing Recommendations for the week. I hope you plan to join us along the way. And please, feel free to share any comments you have regarding my column, television, or links. Writers love getting feedback from their readers, even if someone disagrees with our point of view.

One other note: Beginning this week my television column will appear every Friday. Prior to this it debuted on Tuesdays. I made the change so that I could better serve you with the press information I receive from the networks.

THIS WEEK IN TV HISTORY VAN DYKE AND COMPANY had its last airing on December 30, 1976 on the CBS network. The comedy/variety show starred Dick Van Dyke along with a company of regulars which included the LA Mime Company and a young comedian named Andy Kauffman (prior to his TAXI days, of course). Despite Van Dyke's talent, the series only lasted four months. Nowadays, of course, Van Dyke stars in the hit series DIAGNOSIS MURDER, also on CBS.

PIGSKIN AND IMPEACHMENT

For better or worse, the television airwaves these next two weeks will be filled with college football and news of the upcoming impeachment trial of President Clinton. For impeachment junkies, CNBC, CNN and C-SPAN will offer what seems like almost around the clock coverage. The major networks will break into their regular programming if and when any new aspects of the story break.

The college football fan in your life is no doubt in heaven right now - and I count myself among those numbers. Literally dozens of college bowl games will be played in the next few weeks. Here is a rundown of the upcoming games being played between December 25th and December 31st. Note: This listing will take the place of my regular tv viewing recommendations for the week.
