PAX-TV IS FAMILY FRIENDLY

Despite all the choices available to viewers with broadcast, cable and satellite channels, some viewers long for the "good old days" of family friendly television. Now those viewers have their wish. In August of 1998 PAX net, known as PAX-TV, began broadcasting on cable and local UHF stations throughout the U.S.

The network was founded by Lowell "Bud" Paxson, a Christian businessman who wanted to create his own brand of family friendly programming. Jeff Sagnasky, former president of CBS Entertainment, is the President and Chief Executive Officer of PAX-TV.

Promotional information supplied by PAX-TV states, "Paxson has set itself apart from other networks with a pledge to its audience that it will not air programming containing excessive violence and gratuitous sex." They plan to accomplish this goal with a combination of original programming and reruns of formerly successful network programming.

Currently, their prime time lineup contains reruns of three popular programs, two of which are still producing first-run episodes on CBS. They are: TOUCHED BY AN ANGEL: DR. QUINN, MEDICINE WOMAN and DIAGNOSIS MURDER.

Original programming includes:

LITTLE MEN is based on the book of the same name by Louisa May Alcott. In the story, Jo is widowed and left to run the boarding school for boys that she and her husband Fritz had founded. Jo¹s family in the book also makes regular cameo appearances.

FLIPPER: THE NEW ADVENTURES is the third recent incarnation of everyone¹s favorite Dolphin. The series was a big hit in the '60s but the newer versions have yet to catch on with viewers. PAX is hoping this latest version will do the trick.

NEON RIDER is new in the United States but is already showing in Canada. Winston Rekert stars as Michael Terry, a psychologist who works with troubled teenagers. He gave up his practice and now runs a ranch where problem teenagers get a chance to escape the pressures of city life. In contrast to other programs in PAX-TV not every episode of this series has a happy ending.

ADVENTURES OF SWISS FAMILY ROBINSON stars Richard Thomas (THE WALTONS) as the father of a family that is ship wrecked on a deserted island. The series is shot on the island of Fiji in the South Pacific.

Former network series appearing on PAX-TV include: HERE¹S LUCY, THE LOVE BOAT, EIGHT IS ENOUGH, THE HOGAN FAMILY, DAVE¹S WORLD, HIGHWAY TO HEAVEN, FATHER DOWLING MYSTERIES, CHRISTY, LIFE GOES ON, I¹LL FLY AWAY, FAMILY, MEDICAL CENTER, BONANZA and THE BIG VALLEY.
