New Series, Major News Events, Dominate TVBy far the most disappointing new series of the season for me is "The Night Stalker." I grew up in the 70s and remember the original series with great fondness. The wonderful Darren McGavin portrayed the beleaguered newspaper reporter Karl Kolchak who chased various supernatural phenomena. I had high hopes for the series as it is done by some of the same people who did "The X-Files. The pilot was very underwhelming, however. The best part was a three second shot of Darren McGavin, taken from the original series and superimposed into the pilot. "The Night Stalker" debuts Wednesday, Sept. 29 on ABC from 9 - 10 p.m. New and returning series debut: This week also marks the debut of a number of new television series. Best known for playing the loveable first mate of The S.S. Minow on "Gilliagan's Island," Denver also played Maynard G. Krebs on the 1950s classic series, "The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis." Denver's comedic gifts are showcased each day as "Gilligan's Island" remains in reruns all over the world. No doubt someone is watching an episode at this very moment. Denver was truly everyone's "little buddy" and will be missed.
