The New Fall Television Season is in Full SwingThe city of New York is as much a character of this series as the actors. The pilot episode featured the team going after a serial killer who likes to leave his victims in a permanent semi-conscious state. The program is shot much like all the other "CSI" series with graphic displays of violence done to the human body by bullets and other lethal items. The series will no doubt be popular with a certain segment of the "CSI" fan base. The question is how much of the fan base will take the show to heart? While I enjoy the crime stories on the original series, I watch it more for the interplay between the characters. I didn't see a whole lot in the pilot that makes me want to spend time with these chracters each week. To me, the original series is still the best. Now that I've sampled the pilot, I'll be going back to the original "Law & Order" on NBC. "CSI: New York" airs Wednesdays at 10 p.m. (PST) on CBS. For more on "CSI: New York" please visit the official Web site at http://www.cbs.com/primetime/csi_ny/ "Hawaii" is NBC's latest entry into the crime show genre. The cast includes Michael Biehn as Det.Sean Harrison and Sharif Atkins (late of "ER") as Det. John Declan. Harrison is the veteran cop, Declan is a newcomer fresh off the boat from Chicago. Rounding out the cast are Ivan Sergei ("Crossing Jordan") as Det. Danny Edwards, Eric Balfou ("Six Feet Under") as Christopher Gains, Aya Sumilca as Officer Linh, Peter Navy Tuiasopo as Officer Kaleo and Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa as the tough but fair captain of Metro PD, Terry Harada. The scenery in Hawaii is fantastic. Unfortunately, it is the best thing about this show. Nothing in the chemistry of the cast or the action suggested that "Hawaii" will be anything more then a run of the mill cop show. If it wasn't set in Hawaii, it wouldn't even be that. "Hawaii" airs on NBC, Wednesday, 8 p.m. PST.
