March Madness has turned into spring time. For television viewers, it can only mean one thing - the NCAA Final Four and the return of Major League Baseball.
CBS is televising the Final Four on Sunday, 4. In the first game Georgia Tech takes on Okalahoma State 3:07 PST while Connecticut takes on Duke at 5:47 PST in the second. The championship game between the winners airs Monday, April 5 on CBS. (The exact air time was unavailable at press time.) Ratings for this year's NCAA Tournament are up so far. CBS sold an estimated $380 million worth of commercial time for the entire tournament. The overall ratings aren't like that of the World Series but so-called March Madness still delivers large numbers of young male viewers, a group that advertisers covet. Though it can no longer be considered the nation's pastime, opening day of the baseball season is still a special time to many people, myself included. A variety of networks will carry MLB games this year with FOX having dibs on the playoffs and World Series. Major League Baseball doesn't give anything away though so this will cost you $14.95 per month. Every game is available, however, so fans can watch their favorite team wherever they are. The leader in that regard certainly has to be the USA Network. The network has already won acclaim (and viewers) with "Monk" and "The Dead Zone." Their newest entry, "Touching Evil," may soon be in that category as well. Jeffrey Donovan stars as Det. David Creegan. A brilliant but very unorthodox detective, Creegan returns to duty after a near fatal shooting in which he suffered a gun shot to the brain. In addition to causing psychological damage, the wound also destroyed the part of the brain that regulates many behaviors. As a result, Creegan literally has no shame and is easily agitated and prone to unorthodox behaviors. Vera Farmiga co-stars as Susan Branca, Creegan's by the book partner. Their opposite work styles make them a perfect team but learning to tolerate and appreciate each other will take some time. Go To Page: 1 2
