Super Bowl Half Time Show Overshadows a Great Game


CBS wins first day of the February sweeps: CBS is off to a fast start in the February sweeps periods. The network posted a 14.5 rating and 22 share for the first night of the quarterly ratings period which helps set advertising rates for their local stations. NBC was second with a 13/8 rating and 21 share. ABC was far behind with a 5.8 rating and 9 share. Fox came in with a 3/5 rating and a 5 share.

Super Bowl scores number one rating: As expected the Super Bowl on CBS was the most watched program last week. An estimated 89,795,000 viewers tuned in to watch the New England Patriots beat the Carolina Panthers on a last second field goal, 32-29. The Super Bowl Post Game Show was second with 58,962,000 viewers. Here are the rest of the top-ten rated programs last week as determined by AC Neilson.

CSI, CBS, 20,189,000 8. The Apprentice, NBC, 18,877,000 viewers 9. Without a Trace, CBS, 17,479,000 viewers 10. Will & Grace, NBC, 17,257,000 viewers

This week in television history: "This is Tom Jones" debuts on February 7, 1969 on the ABC television network. The pop super star headlined this popular variety series which aired in Britain and the U.S. Jones, known for his baritone voice and gyrating hips that still drive women wild, also sang the theme song to the James Bond movie "Goldfinger."
