The New Year is traditionally a time to make new goals that often fall to the wayside by the third or fourth week of January. Setting a goal requires more than expressing a wish. Goals are achieved through planning and action. If you have a goal to work at home in 2001, this article will help you plan and take action towards making your work-at-home dream come true. Is your goal written down? Or does it just linger in mind, coming to surface when faced with the hassles of childcare and commuting? Studies have shown that people who write down their goals are much more likely to be successful. In fact, over all, those who write down their goals make more money and express greater satisfaction in their lives. So...have you written your goal down yet? Now that your goal is written you're set, right? Wrong. A goal is little more than a wish until you make a plan and take action to achieve it. The purpose for writing a goal down is to help you make a greater commitment and develop a greater focus to it. But it won't happen by itself. In order to make your plan you need to determine: 1. What specifically do you want to happen? Will you be working at home full time? Will you be working at home part-time and that will create enough income for you to survive? Will you be working at home only when you need a little extra cash? 2. How will you know when you reached your goal? How much money do you need to earn? How many gizmos do you need to sell? You need to have a tangible measure of success. For many of us, the money is the all-important factor...you can stay home only if you can cover the mortgage and other expenses. Money is a good measure because it easily defined and understood. 3. When will you achieve your goal? June 30, 2001? December 31, 2001? Sooner? Later? It doesn't matter really when you set your goal as long as it's realistic. Setting a goal to be home by January 30, 2001 will be tough to achieve. But you want to set it soon enough that you have something to strive for; something that forces you to take action each day to reach your goal. An example of a good goal is: I will be working at home earning $1200 per month by August 30, 2001.
