When you are finished, you should be able to see how much work you potentially could have and what you could be earning.

5. Start applying to positions to work on in your spare time. This will help you earn some nest egg money for emergencies after you quit your job. Some of the freelance jobs require an application or resume similar to regular jobs. A new type of freelance site (Such as Elance) works like an auction in which you bid on projects. Read the directions carefully for these types of sites.

6. Be sure that you get clear instructions about the job, a contact person for questions, and a contract that outlines your duties and how and when you'll be paid.

7. As you start getting work, you will begin to get a feel for the ebb and flow of freelance work. You won't get every project you want so you should apply to several at a time. Nevertheless, you should be careful not to take on more work than you can do well and deliver on time.

8. Set a plan for quitting your job once you have a momentum for applying and doing the jobs.

9. Because freelancers are hired on a contract basis, develop a system for tracking your pay and expenses related to work. Consult with a tax advisor regarding taxes.

The opportunities to a living working at home as a freelancer are too good to ignore. Further, the experience and knowledge gain through freelance work can be later used to get a full-time salary job.
