Each day I visit several job sites to see what telecommuting jobs are currently posted. Today at Monster.com alone there were 376 telecommuting jobs listed.

After checking current job ads, I read my email from people "desperate" to work at home. They tell me they have skills in using the computer, typing, and so forth but aren't able to find a work-at-home job. If you are one of these people, I have two tips to help you achieve your work-at-home goal:

1) While there are people who work at home doing data entry or typing letters; most telecommuting jobs I find require professional skills and experience. The most common job categories are computer programming, web design, writing, accounting, law, recruiting, and so on. If you want to work at home in a job, particularaly one that pays a full time salary and offers benefits, you need to have the skills to do the jobs that are offered at this level. If you don't have the skills, then get them. By doing so you will will have your choice of jobs and be in a better position to negotiate salary.

Today, it's easier than ever to find ways to take classes to improve your marketability to potential employers. You can get this training at local colleges or even online. In fact, Free Academy (http://www.freeacademy.com/) offers FREE classes in computer programming, Internet webmaster specialist, and Internet applications developer. There is only a $10 administration fee, which covers 6 courses. You can also get CNE, MCSE, or A+ Certification through Free Academy.
