The New Batman/Superman Adventures

The Batman/Superman show is the kind of program that makes you wish television had never been invented. The entire thing makes you feel like you're seasick. (At least, that's how it makes me feel.)

The title is misleading. Batman and Superman are just half hour shows right next to each other. With the exception of a few episodes, the heroes never meet. I think the entire show is utterly stupid. It is violent, the plots are stupid and the heroes can always get out of jams with hardly a scratch. Of the two, Batman is my favorite. The Batman part is more interesting to me. Batman can easily get hurt, or die from lack of air. In Batman, the villains are wackier. They have a bizarre cast of insane criminals. The weirdest are the Joker, Two-Face, Harley Quinn, Killer Croc, Poison Ivy and the Scarecrow.

Joker is a criminal who was once partially sane, until one day Batman tried to capture him. He escaped by jumping into a vat of chemicals that turned his skin chalk-white, and stretched his lips into a permanent grin. Harley Quinn is his sidekick. Harley steals the money, and Joker tries to stop Batman.

The heroes are also a little wild. Bruce Wayne hadn't even thought of becoming a crime fighter until he was very young. When he was eight, he witnessed his parents' deaths. A mugger shot them both when they were returning from a movie. The police arrived too late to catch the criminal. Right after he did the deed, he fled into the night.

Dick Grayson was once Robin, but after he left college to travel the world, he came back as Nightwing. He now lives on his own, but still helps Batman and Batgirl. The new Robin is Tim Drake, a thirteen-year-old boy. He feels he has to earn his place with Batman.

Superman is the least interesting part of the entire show. He can do anything, and hardly anything hurts him! In each episode, you see that several things come close to destroying him, but nothing does. Magic and electricity hurt him, but kryptonite does the most damage, weakening him until it finally destroys him. (But it never does!)

The villains aren't even that interesting. Metallo is a man who had his body replaced by a powerful android. The scientists practically just stuck Metallo's brain into a droid body. Bizzaro is Superman's created double. He is a wackier version of Superman. Livewire is my favorite villain. Once a radio DJ, she is one of the haters of Superman. She was hosting a party during an electrical storm, and when lightning struck the equipment, it also struck her. She became solid energy, and could travel through power lines, shut down power and throw lighting bolts.
