Why Babies Cry

The only way our babies know how to communicate with us is by crying. This can become very frustrating for the parent, especially when we cannot tell what is wrong with our kids.

There are several reasons why our kids cry.

Consider these reasons:

1. Colicky Babies Some babies are colicky for the first three months from the time they are born. Doctors still don't know where this comes from, but it does go away over time. A baby may cry for three or more hours a day. There is not much you can do about it, but to be patient.

2. Dirty Diaper A lot of babies don't do well in a dirty diaper. When my son was in diapers, the minute he urinated (even just a little) he wanted out of the diaper. Babies tend to go to the bathroom a lot more depending on the amount of liquids you give them. Keep track of how much water or apple juice you are giving to your child. This may be the reason why babies urinate too much.

3. Diaper Rash This is the worst feeling for a baby. When a baby has a diaper rash and then urinates, it obviously stings badly. When changing a baby's diaper, always put diaper cream on the baby along with a dash of baby powder. I used Johnson and Johnson Diaper Cream for all four of my kids and it does wonders.

4. Hungry Belly A lot of times our babies cry simply because they are hungry. Sometimes, babies don't get enough food for the day to fulfill their needs. Keep track of when you feed your baby and how long between meals you wait to feed the baby again.

5. Cold/Hot Babies are either hot or cold. When a baby is hot, it cries constantly. The uncomfortable feeling of sweat and heat would make anyone crabby. Doctors always say don't overdress your baby. Dress them as you would dress yourself in the warm weather. Wearing just a diaper and white t-shirt is always best if the child is in the house. Check your air conditioner, as it may be too cold for your baby. Keep socks on their feet and a little hood on their head.

6. Ear Infection When babies are sick, they cannot tell us what is wrong with them. A lot of times, babies have really bad ear infections. The way to notice is to see if your baby is pulling on his or her ear. Is the ear red? Does your baby flinch when you touch the ear? If so, call the pediatrician right away, as ear infections unoticed can cause further problems.
