Teen Pregnancy Acceptance

Life throws you a curveball. Do you catch it and embrace it? Or do you duck and ignore it? Life has thrown me several curveballs; some I have embraced and some I have ignored.

When you find out you're pregnant or maybe you have already given birth, you are faced with many changes and challenges in your life. So, how do you embrace them? First, we need to understand teen pregnancy. Please read http://www.suite101.com/article.cfm/1246... Second, we must accept the challenges we are about to embark upon and embrace the changes in our lives. As much as we are heartbroken, angry, sad, mad, and even shocked with the pregnancy or the birth of our child, we have to come to terms with it and work on making a healthy and successful life for our children and ourselves.

Education You have to evaluate what is going on in your life now. Are you still in high school? Maybe you are going to college. Can you have a child and do both? Well, of course you can.

If you are going to college, financial aid is available for single moms and most colleges have day care centers. Please check out this site: http://bbs.babycenter.com/board/baby/bab... Although, I got pregnant after I graduated high school, I did go to college at the age of twenty-seven years old. It is never too late to get a good education.

Support System A lot of us need support. There are several support groups available for teenage mothers. Please read http://www.suite101.com/article.cfm/1246...

Financial Issues Some of us might face single parenting. There are several resources available to help you and get you on your feet. Call your local health department, social services, and find a job.

Parenting skills There are several workshops that are offered online. Check out http://www.suite101.com/course.cfm/16655... and http://www.suite101.com/course.cfm/17536...

Your health department should have a program called Planned Parenthood. Call and make an appointment.

I believe it is important to embrace what life throws at us. We cannot question it, analyze it, or figure it out. The only thing we can do is face it and move forward. If we stop and analyze it, if we stop and question it, we are just putting our lives on hold.

So, take the first step and embrace your change and be thankful for having the strength to go on.
