Is it just me or did this year's award ceremony lack luster? Whether you watched the two hour award presentation or not, here are the highlights of the show and who walked home with proof they were the people's choice.
Dylan McDermott from the Practice presented the first award of the night for Actress in a Comedy. It was no surprise Sandra Bullock won the award for her role in the funny flick, Miss Congeniality. Her co-star Benjamin Bratt also took home an award for Supporting Actor in a Comedy. Although the film didn't make a mark at the box office when it opened last December, the two stars proved they were the people's choice in the hilarious movie. The next award was presented by Scary Movie co-stars and brothers Shawn and Marlon Wayans. NSYNC won the award and multiple others proving they were definitely the people's choice this year. Although the hit boyband did not perform at the ceremony, several bands and performers did. Sheryl Crow did a duet with Stevie Nicks, LeAnn Rimes performed her hit song from the film Coyote Ugly, Joe belted out Stutter with Mystical and Tom Green made an entrance throwing produce into the audience edging the crowd on for Creed's performance. It was also made known that Drew Barrymore and Tom Green finally tied the knot as the girl's from Charlie's Angels (Drew, Lucy Liu and Cameron Diaz) hanged backstage with Jan Carl after receiving their award for the action chick flick. There were also many veteran actors who received awards at the ceremony. Michelle Pfiffer won for Actress in a Scary movie and Helen Hunt took home two awards for her performance in Cast Away and What Women Want. Dustin Hoffman presented an award to Warren Beatty for his many years as being an acclaimed movie actor for his performances in such films as Bugsy, Bolsworth and Dick Tracy. As for the younger generation of performers, Kate Hudson won an award for her portrayal in the acclaimed film, Almost Famous directed by Cameron Crowe. Christina Aguilera beat Britney and took home an award. What award did she win? Who knows, I was too busy criticizing her funky outfit and outrageous, not to mention, fake hair. The show ended seemingly abrupt with Jan Carl and Kate Hudson reminding us to be kind and rewind and saying a farewell. All in all, this year's Blockbuster Awards was an excuse to bring out the celebrities for an opportunity to primp and parade but it's nice to have an award's ceremony in which we, the movie go-ers and music listeners, pick the winners.
