A Movie Mission - Made Impossible?

It's Mission Impossible at its best with action, exploding scenes, unbelievable stunts, and uber famous actor, Tom Cruise, to play the part. This month I took to the chat rooms to find out what teens thought about Mission Impossible: 2 and to find out what you can expect from this month's featured film.

First, some background information...
Tom Cruise returns as Ethan Hunt, Impossible Missions Force pointman, who, as the film opens, has his rock-climbing vacation interrupted by an emergency summon to Seville, Spain, where the IMF boss (played by Anthony Hopkins) dispatches him to apprehend a malevolent Scotsman named Sean Ambrose (played by Dougray Scott, Ever After) that has plans to threaten the world with a deadly virus called Chimera.

Like the original Mission Impossible film (1996), M-I:2 features some pretty nifty gadgets like a satellite that can capture detailed video of anyone in the world. Mega action also predominated in the sequel with plenty of double-fisted gunplay, martial arts, and slow-motion action.

What teens had to say...
"I plan on [seeing] it and I think it will be better than the original." - Bill, 16

"I've seen it twice and it was good." - John, 17

"I plan on seeing it. I'm expecting it to be a good movie with action because of the last one [M-I:1] and Tom Cruise." - Mike, 15

"I saw it and it was okay. It wasn't all the hype." - Trish,15

What the critics (and myself) have to say...
Currently number one at the box-office, critics view this Woo film as less than his best. It has left many critics wondering, "Can they actually do that?" with reference to unbelievable stunts and too many slow shots that seem to analyze these already unbelievable choreographed fighting scenes. Many have said a film like this rarely lives up to its hype. As the sequel to a movie that took in over $180 million domestically and over $420 worldwide in 1996, M-I:2 has been a total flop.
Yet, many critics see this as the peak of wonderfully done Woo films including that of Face/Off that raked in millions at the box-office a few years back.
All in all, it's evident that each individual will see M-I:2 in an either/or light. It will either be a big hit with explosive action and cliffhanging scenes, or a total flop that begs for the Mission Impossible entourage to give it a rest. You decide.
