Spreadsheets are one of the most versatile programs available for teachers today, and although it’s not always the easiest to learn, the benefits are well worth the time spent mastering it. There are so many ways teachers can use spreadsheets. They can be used to calculate student averages and chart progress, create activities and keep track of materials and supplies, just to name a few.

DESCRIBE IT!

OBJECTIVES:

Create an activity worksheet where students list adjectives to describe nouns

MATERIALS NEEDED:

Spreadsheet software Theme or unit words List of retired or off limits adjectives

REQUIREMENT SUGGESTIONS:

Ten to fifteen nouns from a unit or theme in literature Definition of nouns and adjectives Adjectives should not be repeated

PROCESS:

1.Create a spreadsheet with at least three columns

2.Name column 1, “Noun”; column 2 “Adjective”; and column 3 “Adjective”

3.Create a list of nouns relating to a theme or story

4.Model one example of students to follow

5.Type activity directions on worksheet with spreadsheet

APPLICATION:

*Students type (if working online) or write two adjectives to describe each noun listed

*Have students choose their best two adjectives for one noun

*Read adjectives in class or create a bulletin board to feature excellent work

*Make an overhead transparency and complete the activity as a class
