Spreadsheets are a great tool for integrating technology into the classroom. They are versatile and can be used for a number of different learner-centered activities. Depending on the skill level of your students, spreadsheets can be converted into charts and graphs to create a super visual aide for student projects or teacher presentations. This lesson plan is written for a social studies class to chart the history of the Presidency.
WHO'S IN THE WHITE HOUSE? OBJECTIVES: Use a spreadsheet to match the president of the United States with his vice president and the years served in office. MATERIALS NEEDED: Spreadsheet software Teacher created assignment guidelines Internet connectivity List of teacher-approved web sites http://www.robinsonresearch.com/PRESDENT... PROCESS: 1. Teacher introduces a lesson on the qualifications for president of the US 2. Students learn to use the spreadsheet software and work with columns 3. Students use the Internet to research the president, vice president and office terms 4. Once students have matched the presidents and their vice presidents, they use the spreadsheet to input the data PUBLICATION: *Students print out their spreadsheets and create a special President's bulletin board This is a great extension activity for a lesson on the history of the presidency.
